    2. Objectives: Explain the need for warming up before each dance experience. Executes a variety of warm-up exercises specific to dance.

  1. Introduction - 2 minutes

    1. Welcome to my Stretching & Meditation class! 

    2. Why Stretch and Meditate? As dancers, you want to develop a balanced Mind-Body Connection to sharpen your physical and mental performance.

      1. Physically (Body) → Stretching

        1. Elongate our muscles, enhance our range of motion, and promote overall body awareness.

      2. Mentally (Mind) → Meditating

        1. Mental focus, stress reduction, and emotional regulation

  1. The Science of Stretching (Video) - 5 minutes 

    1. Explains the science of stretching and how it helps sharpen physical & mental muscles.

  1. Stretch Sets - 10 minutes

    1. Ask students to go get a mat and find a comfortable spot on the floor.

    2. Exercise Sets (Each for about 30secs - 1 minute)

      4. Sitting Glute Stretch / Right

    1. As an extension of the meditation portion of the class, students will be asked to share with the class one thing they are grateful for and why.

    1. Informal Formative assessment style is executed through positive reinforcements, necessary corrections, and answering questions.


  1. Homework (.5 pt)

    1. Encourage students to practice guided meditation techniques learned in class to minimize stress during the upcoming finals week.


  1. Careers Skills Learned (1 bonus pt)

    1. The focus and concentration cultivated during meditation sessions can enhance cognitive abilities such as problem-solving and decision-making. It can also help develop stress management and emotional regulation skills, which in turn can lead to greater resilience in the face of workplace challenges. Stretching techniques can enhance physical abilities, which can be useful for primarily sedentary jobs.
